Odor Control for Trauma & Crime Scene Cleanup

  • In other times, the elderly would live with relatives or be in other care facilities. Now, however, they wish to remain in their own homes - most often living alone as well as dying alone. They might not be found for several days by which time the damage is done.

  • In other times, people would die peacefully in bed or in the hospital. Now, with the increase in crime, the situation has changed drastically.

  • In other times, there did not seem to be as many potentially infectious or communicable diseases such as flesh eating viruses, AIDS, HIV and Hepititis.

  • In other times, there were no such things as terrorism or bioterrorists. Now the situation has changed and we need to be ready to deal with these changes.

With all of the new problems we face everyday, crime scene cleanup and trauma cleanup has become a new and very important need in our society. With this need comes the need to go beyond a mop and bucket. Even after the scene has been cleaned up, there is still the need for odor removal, as well as airborne and microscopic pathogen removal. Ozone generators have been used for years to deal with these problems. There are courses given in crime scene clean up and trauma clean up that recommend the use of ozone generators.

Why Tear gas Cleanup

Tear gas is a chemical substance used by law enforcement agencies as a non-violent means of extraction in a variety of ways such as riot control and to force the surrender of fugitives confined in a building.

Tear gas is fired out of a shotgun and the cannister itself is shaped like a small torpedo. When the cannister hits inside the structure it ruptures, releasing a fine oily mist that penetrates all areas of a room. Usually several cannisters are fired into a home making it virtually impossible for a suspect to hide. Unfortunately, the entire house is uninhabitable after such an event. Tear gas usually leaves pink or other color paint on walls and other surfaces where the cannisters have ruptured. Tear Gas cannisters can and will penetrate into a wall. When this occurs, the drywall must be removed and all pieces of the projectile must be removed. A.C.T. Remediation Services utilizes special equipment and tear gas neutralizers to remove tear gas residue and odor. A company hired for tear gas removal must be properly trained. Tear gas clean up cannot be accomplished with the proper tools, equipment and cleaning solutions.

A.C.T. Remediation Services also provide best solutions for crime scene clean up and trauma scene cleanup.

Meth Lab Cleanup

Methamphetamine lab clean up also known as meth lab cleanup, while not gory, is often a lot more dangerous to clean up in terms of health risks. Meth labs, used to make the illegal drug methamphetamine, are discovered in houses, apartments, motel rooms, sheds, or even motor vehicles. The poisons used to make street-grade methamphetamine include acetone, methanol, ammonia, benzene, iodine and hydrochloric acid and leave a toxic residue that coats and infuses every surface and even stays in the air.

Properties used to produce meth will usually be found with a lab-like setting; including containers of chemicals, heat sources, and various types of lab equipment. Typically, after a lab is discovered by law enforcement, the bulk of any lab-related debris, such as chemicals and containers, is removed. However, it is possible a small amount of contamination is left on surfaces and in absorbent materials (carpets, furniture), sinks, drains and ventilation systems. Though found in small amounts, meth lab contaminants may pose health threats to persons exposed to them.

Proper meth lab clean up of involves disposing of everything porous and everything that can't be submerged in detoxification chemicals (several times). Crime scene cleanup cleaners get rid of all furniture, cabinetry, light fixtures, carpeting and electronics basically everything that isn't part of the structure. And in the worst cases, they also dispose of most of the structure, they sometimes have to pull up all of the flooring and gut the walls, removing all of the drywall until nothing remains but studs.

Murder and Homicide cleanup

If a person is killed in a violent fashion in a residence, either through murder, the burden and responsibility for cleaning up the crime scene falls upon the homeowner, most often a family member.

Homicide cleanup refers to the crime scene cleaning involved when a murder/homicide has been committed. Not only is a violent death very messy and but when it occurs in the home is often very traumatic. There is usually significant amounts of blood, bodily fluids and sometimes other bio-matter.

If a decomposing body was removed from the crime scene, the clean-up is even more challenging. Since the body swells during the process of decomposition, and insects move in through body openings such as the mouth, ears, nostrils, etc, some maggots may still be in the area after the body was removed by the coroner. Also left behind for the technicians may be body fluids from the liquefied skin and organs that have saturated the carpet or soaked into the floor. This is in addition to removing what many describe as the most sickening stench on earth, the smell that resulted from the ammonia gas released from the body.

Crime and Trauma Remediation Services

Crime scene cleanup involves a detailed procedure to detect, disinfect and completely remove all traces of bio-hazardous materials, to include but not limited to: blood, bodily fluids, tissue & bone matter, contaminated clothing and household goods, hypodermic needles, razor blades and other items that may pose a risk of injury or death. Although a visual inspection of a crime scene or a suicide scene may reveal a great deal of blood and bodily fluids about the area, an equal amount will be found by our technicians in areas that cannot be seen or easily accessed. It is vital that all traces of these elements be removed from a scene, whether a crime has been committed or not.

Crime scene cleaners are usually secondary responders they arrive after the police, firefighters, paramedics and coroner. The scene is typically already secured, but the clean-up crew needs to confirm this and continue to make sure the public can't enter the scene, because it's a biohazard. The most common clean-up scenes include:

Violent death (homicide clean up/suicide clean up /accidental)

Decomp (a decomposing body)

Methamphetamine labs

In all of these clean-ups, the cleaners arrive with the same equipment. Once they assess the scene and the damage, they have a lot of tools to choose from to help them return the room, apartment or house to its pre-incident state. For more details visit A.C.T. Remediation Services
